Need a Lift? Here Are 8 of the Best Bras For Women of All Shapes and Sizes

Lindsay Tigar  |  May 28, 2020

From strapless to smoothing to shaping to minimizing, these best-selling bras will give you just the boost you need right now.

Not that anyone’s really wearing bras right now. But when we do, we ask a lot of our undergarments. We rely on our bras for daily support, functionality and, let’s be honest, the cute factor.

Victoria’s Secret certainly boosted the profile of frilly, sexy underthings. But these days millennial-aged female professionals are looking for bras that are a tad more practical. We’re also shopping differently than we did in the past — e.g. subscription services that take the guest work out of the bra fitting process.

When it’s time for an undergarment upgrade, these best-selling bras from a variety of brands can do the heavy lifting in style.

PARFAIT Charlotte Contour Bra

This brand has been celebrating size inclusivity long before it was Instagram-trendy. The company has dedicated its collection to have a truly expansive size range — including 30 to 44 bands, B-K cups and offering everything from small to 4XL. One of their best-sellers is the Charlotte Contour Bra, which combines elements of retro and modern. It’s a three-part cup bra with stretchy-material, providing both lift and support. The extra line of power mesh helps to keep our breasts secure, too.

On Gossamer Next to Nothing Micro Wireless Bra

Founded in 1987, this lingerie company is best known for their materials — or more specifically, their signature mesh that’s used throughout its collection. In recent years, On Gossamer implemented new knitting technologies that’s allowed the company to expand its mesh assortment to include cotton mesh, among others. The reason this best-selling bra is a fan favorite? The name says it all: sans-wire, this t-shirt bra is super soft and wearable, complete with narrow straps and light elastic.

Harper Wilde The Bliss

This young company has been growing quickly. How come? Not only do customers praise the quality that’s soft and comfortable, but at a $40 to $45 price point, many can stock up on the basics they need without blowing a paycheck. The company has also have made a point to give back to organizations that empower women. And it’s launched the industry’s only bra recycling program to help those in need. For those of us who love a bralette,  “The Bliss” has a buttery texture that we can wear from board meetings to school pick-up, and even to sleep.

ThirdLove 24/7 Classic T-Shirt Bra

Since 2003, ThirdLove has been thinking differently about boobs. In fact, they were the very first bra company to offer a half-cup sizing, and to reveal a mobile app that gives females the opportunity to measure themselves at home. American-founded and female-operated, ThirdLove offers sizes from A to L, and many customers can’t get enough of the soft texture that smooths lines. The company’s first bra — the 24/7 Classic T-Shirt Bra — is still their No. 1 seller, featuring thin memory foam cups, micro jersey fabric and a pleated straps that don’t slip.

Le Mystere Second Skin Back Smoother

A major complaint many women have about bras is how they cut into their backs, causing discomfort throughout the day. Most of the time, this is due to wearing an incorrect size. With no standardized sizing metric that all brands follow, it can be difficult — if not, impossible! — to figure out your exact band and cup. Since 1991, Le Mystere has been attempting to make this process easier by offering free fit sessions at major department stores nationwide. No location near your zip code? The company also offers phone consultations and Skype bra fittings. Once you determine your fit, the structure, quality and function of this appropriately titled second-skin bra will feel just right. As the vice president of the company puts it: “Bras are not just 9-5 anymore, you need to be able to live in them. It’s all about lifewear.”

Hanky Panky Signature Lace Melanie Bra

Though Hanky Panky is definitely on the higher end of the price spectrum, their USA-made bras often receive five-star reviews. Originally founded in 1977 with the iconic Hanky Panky thong, they’ve evolved to offer a wide range of undergarment options for women, all with comfort and color in mind. In fact, the brand estimates a Hanky Panky thong is sold every ten seconds, and their digital store continues to grow, too. This smooth underwire bra features breathable, padded spacer cups to offer coverage and support, as well as a back hook and eye closure with four adjustments for a flexible fit.

Boody Eco Wear Padded Shaper Bra

Five years ago, Boody set up shop with Mother Nature top of mind. Their bras are made of bamboo viscose, which unlike cotton, doesn’t shrink. This means when washed and hung up to dry, these bras won’t lose their shape as quickly as other brands. They purposefully price their bras in the mega-affordable range —  from $17 to $20 — since they know switching to a sustainable wardrobe can be prohibitively costly. The idea is that we can recycle the bra when it’s time, and purchase another, without breaking a sweat. This padded shaper option has no clasps, no wires and features removable pads, offering light to medium support. Dare we say it’s pretty much perfect for a long travel day?

Okko Signature Bra

As the youngest bra company on our list, Okko stands for “Our Kind of Knock Out” — and best describes the mission behind the brand. Rather than unnecessary bells and whistles, the company focuses on what matters to most ladies: versatility and comfort. When they designed their pieces, they hunted for the perfect material for more than a year, meeting with mills throughout Europe, America and Asia. When they settled on the right option, Okko’s founder tested it by washing and drying it fifteen times over three days. (She’s still wearing that sample bra more than a year later!) Their signature bra features a simple, feminine v-neck style that prevents a uniboob, and offers a reinforced back that keeps breasts secure without being tight. There are also no hooks or wire that dig, poke or constrict. Win-win-win!
