Everything You Need to Know About Your 2023 Taxes

Kathryn Tuggle  |  February 25, 2023

A tax controversy expert joins us to discuss the biggest mistakes taxpayers make, the tax code changes we should know about this year, and more.

We’re officially in the middle of tax season, and this year’s filing deadline of Tuesday, April 18th will be here before we know it. If you haven’t already started thinking about your potential refund — or, dare we say it, how much you might owe the IRS — now is the time. And it’s even more important this year to get your ducks in a row early, because there have been some significant changes to the tax code — income tax brackets have shifted a bit, the standard deduction has increased slightly, there are new adjustments to the child tax credit, and more.

We’re unpacking all these changes, as well as tried-and-true tax tips for every year, with Robbin Caruso, a partner in the Tax Department of Prager Metis International who specializes in complex tax work, federal and state tax controversy resolution, tax audits, and financial planning for high-net-worth clients. Whether you’re an employee, a business owner, or an independent contractor, Robbin’s got you covered with her three decades of tax experience. She guides us through the biggest mistakes she sees people make on their taxes every year and gives advice on how to avoid them. We also talk about what you need to keep in mind for taxes during big life transitions like marriage or divorce, the risk of identity theft on tax returns and how you can protect yourself, and what to do in some (hopefully uncommon) worst-case scenarios. And if you’re not happy with your taxes turned out — whether you owe money to the IRS or you’re getting too big of a refund — Robbin has tips for how to adjust.

Plus, we want to hear from you! If you have any tax questions you’d like to have answered, please send them our way at mailbag@hermoney.com to be featured on an upcoming episode.
