The Best Work Perks These Female Founders Offer At Their Companies

Aly Walansky  |  January 27, 2022

These rockstar founders and CEOs are rolling out with some incredible work perks that we all wish we had.

When’s the last time you had fun at work? No, really. This week is National Fun at Work Day, and even though it’s not the kind of day that requires an ugly sweater or decoration of any kind, it has inspired us to think about how much joy we’re really finding in the midst of our pandemic work days. Yes, we know we’re working to make a living and support our lifestyles and families, but we also need to have a little enjoyment while we’re at it, especially with burnout levels at an all-time high.

We decided to take a look at what some incredible founders and CEOs are doing to bring more joy to their employee’s days… trust us, after reading this, you’re going to want to work there, too.

Courtney Campbell

Courtney Campbell, creative director and owner of Campbell Creative, a branding and positioning agency in Delray Beach, Florida, offers cocktail hours every day.

The team at Campbell Creative represents some awesome beverage brands (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and lucky for the team at Campbell Creative, there are samples galore to enjoy after work. The super cool Campbell Creative’s HQ office backyard features an airstream, mini golf, lounge areas, and more to sit and relax in at the end of a long day at work – and enjoy refreshments from brands such as Mumm Napa, Woodwork, Sovi, and many more! (Bigger plus, the team hosts picnics and women’s shops and gatherings on the regular in their backyard.)

“The perk was an evolution that evolved out of a year of COVID where we constantly had meetings with clients in the backyard to socially distance as needed. Those meetings began to gravitate towards the early morning for coffee featuring Peet’s (our caffeine and client of choice) or the end of the day for cocktails and the tradition stuck. Most days those social hours involve client brainstorms but some days are just for us to connect, unplug and reset before ending the day,” said Campbell.

Michelle Hayward

Michelle Hayward, founder and CEO of Bluedog Design, a marketing and growth consultancy,  works closely with well-known CPG clients to shape better decisions that land in sustainable growth. As a woman-owned company that is staffed by more than 70% women, Michelle is extremely passionate about establishing a culture of trust and value among her employees and partners. Some of the best perks offered at Bluedog Design include wellness programming. For more than a decade, the company has offered in-person and virtually accessible yoga, Mat Pilates, dance, mindfulness, sound bath therapy and Zumba classes; as well as an annual $200 stipend for self-directed wellness initiatives. They also offer $500 to each employee annually to be self-directed to do something that ignites their curiosity, and perhaps coolest, Bluedoggers are awarded a month-long sabbatical upon reaching 5 years of employment.

Julia Cheek

Everly Health, which is founded and led by CEO Julia Cheek, offers a monthly lifestyle stipend to support healthy habits and overall well-being. This includes options like gym memberships, personal development classes, and even pet care. They also offer a $10,000 adoption or fertility stipend and access and guidance to fertility resources, and mental health therapy and coaching sessions for employees and dependents.

Anna Crowe

Crowe PR was founded by Anna Crowe, and is 100% female led. They offer staff half-day Fridays, all year round. (Pending completion of work, of course!). Other fun perks include complimentary spa treatments to one employee per month who has gone above and beyond in their job or contributed to the company culture in a positive way, and an online book club to encourage reading, discussion and employee engagement. Looking to get away? They host annual overnight retreats where all employees come together for a day of strategy, planning and professional development, but also a fun day/night out and observe International Women’s Day on March 8 as a company holiday.

Kelsey Moreira

Kelsey Moreira, founder of Dough, the edible and bakeable cookie dough brand, has created an environment for employees that focuses on mental health and happiness. To foster this, Kelsey has implemented several cool and unique offerings for employees. Every day, Kelsey leads a free guided meditation for employees that is an opt in with a different focus daily. She also offers mental health days, which are days off with no questions asked and can be just “I need a break today”. Kelsey also has a Mental Health Policy for Doughp employees that reimburses employees for mental wellness and self help. For example, if someone needs a massage to feel more relaxed –it’s reimbursed or if they want to buy a book on self-improvement –it is reimbursed.

Alex Daly

Daly is a boutique New York City PR Firm founded by Alex Daly. Some perks include Summer Fridays every Friday, year round and a $500 Yearly Wellness Stipend to be spent on anything to support mental or physical wellness. This can be anything from acupuncture to massages! The team is also offered $200 yearly WFH stipend to, and an annual retreat. Their 2021 retreat was 4 days in Miami!
